Procedure of treatment with aligners in our dental practice in Munich
1. Initial consultation and examination
At the beginning of the treatment, we discuss your wishes and expectations regarding the tooth correction together. We analyze the current condition of your teeth using a thorough examination, photos and X-rays to create the best treatment plan.
2. Modeling of the teeth using the I-Tero scanner
For the aligners, we need precise models of your upper and lower jaw as well as an accurate registration of the teeth. This data is captured using Align Technology’s I-Tero Scanner , a state-of-the-art process that provides fast and accurate impressions of your teeth. After just a few minutes, we receive an initial digital simulation of the possible treatment result, which we can show you on our screen.
3. Individual treatment planning – The ClinCheck from Invisalign®
Based on the scanned data, Invisalign® technicians create an individual treatment protocol, called ClinCheck. In this step, it is determined how many aligners are needed, how long the treatment will take and what the entire course of the tooth correction looks like. It is also determined whether and how much tooth substance needs to be removed by stripping (enamel reduction) and whether engagers (tooth-colored “nipples”) are necessary to move the teeth better.
4. Stripping and Engagers – Gentle Tooth Correction
If there is not enough space for your teeth, minimally invasive stripping (also known as ASR ) is performed, which involves creating a tiny gap between the teeth. This process is safe and not harmful to the tooth because only the enamel is affected. Engagers, small tooth-colored plastic nubs, can be attached to the teeth to support the aligner and allow for even more precise tooth movement. These engagers are invisible under the aligner splints.
5. Production of aligners
After we approve the treatment plan, your personal series of clear aligners will be made at Invisalign®. These aligners are individually fitted and adapt perfectly to the shape and structure of your teeth.
6. Insertion of the aligners
After the production of the aligners, we make an appointment where the IPR and engagers (if necessary) are made and the first aligner is inserted. During this appointment, you will also receive the remaining aligners at home, so that you can continue your treatment independently.
7. Progress and check-up dates
The aligners must be changed at home every one to two weeks. About every four to six weeks, you will come to our dental practice to check the progress of your treatment and make adjustments if necessary. Your teeth straightening will be continuously monitored to ensure that everything is going as planned.
8. Retention – Long-term results
At the end of the treatment, the new tooth position is stabilized by the use of retainers . In the lower jaw, a thin wire is attached to the inside of the teeth, and in the upper jaw, you wear a clear VIVERA retainer from Invisalign®, which you use mainly at night. In this way, the result is maintained in the long term.
